BONNY LG CHAIRMAN EMPOWERS 400 WOMEN WITH ₦200 MILLION

…Each beneficiary receives ₦500,000 to strengthen her business

In a demonstration of his commitment to women’s economic empowerment and inclusive development, the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Amasenibo Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple, DSSRS, on Saturday, August 15, 2026, disbursed a total of ₦200 million to 400 women under the Bonny Local Government Women Empowerment Scheme.

Each beneficiary received ₦500,000 to strengthen and expand her small business, improve household income and enhance her capacity to contribute meaningfully to the local economy.

The initiative, the first of its kind by any Local Government administration in Bonny, is designed to strengthen women-owned businesses, improve household welfare, stimulate economic activities and create greater opportunities for women to achieve sustainable economic independence.

Speaking at the event, the Council Chairman emphasised the far-reaching impact of investing in women, noting that supporting a woman ultimately translates to supporting families and strengthening the wider community.

“If you support a woman, you support families and the development of our community.”

He explained that the empowerment scheme reflects his administration’s deliberate commitment to improving the livelihoods of women and creating practical opportunities for them to thrive economically.

According to the Council Chairman, “A woman who has the means to provide, invest and support her family contributes directly to the stability of that family and the prosperity of the community.”

The Chairman expressed profound appreciation for the opportunity to serve the people of Bonny and particularly acknowledged the exceptional leadership and guidance of the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, GSSRS, whose leadership, he noted, continues to inspire a culture of service, empowerment and sustainable development.

He further assured the beneficiaries and the people of Bonny that his administration would continue to introduce impactful initiatives and provide sustained support aimed at improving livelihoods of all.

The event, which was marked by a strong show of solidarity and support from women across Bonny Kingdom, featured goodwill messages from the Woman Leader of Bonny Kingdom, Amaopuorubo Helen Jackwilson Pepple; the Vice Chairman of Bonny LGA, Hon. Ibinyefagha Alabere Renner; and other leaders of the Rainbow Coalition in Bonny.###
